Journey through Captivity is gripping story of abduction by a group of Guerillas in the midst of Famine and War in Ethiopia in 1983. A compelling story of reflections, reactions and revelations that transformed the lives of many including the displaced. The book is a recollection of the harrowing experiences of solitude during 49 days in captivity and the emotional ambivalence encompassing the journey through the Tigray terrain. It portrays a vivid picture of the changing faces of Ethiopia during three different regimes starting from the protagonist’s journey from Mumbai to Massawa. 

About the Author

 Sheela Sheth is an award winning author and freelance writer based in Toronto,Canada with a rich career spanning over four decades and more than 1,000 published articles in leading newspapers and magazines worldwide. She began her journey in India, working for a prominent daily newspaper after earning a degree in Mass Communications and a Master’s in Sociology. In 1980, Sheela relocated to Ethiopia, marking the start of a transformative chapter in her life. There, she held key roles at Addis Ababa University, Save the Children Fund, UNICEF, and the Economic Commission for Africa. Her passion for humanitarian work led her to the Office of Refugee Resettlement in Sudan, where she documented the harrowing stories of Eritrean and Ethiopian refugees preparing for repatriation. These experiences deeply influenced her, inspiring her to write “Journey Through Captivity”, a poignant book based on her husband’s personal diary. The book reflects on events from over 40 years ago and serves as a tribute to refugees and displaced individuals across the world. Through her writing, Sheela continues to shed light on the resilience of the human spirit, using her platform to bring awareness to the challenges faced by the displaced and marginalized.
